Animal Control Codes
The Animal Control Officer may apprehend
and impound any dog found without a current valid license tag
on the animal. Any dog with or without a current license tag
which is found running at large; any dog disturbing the peace;
any dog which bites any person; or any dog which is a public
nuisance can also be apprehended and impounded. Any Officer
has the right to enter upon private property when it is
necessary to do so in reasonable pursuit of and in order to
apprehend any dog subject to impoundment, cats can also be
impounded.
Time of Impoundment; each unlicensed animal
impounded shall be kept at the Animal Shelter for a minimum of
three (3) days. After the three (3) days, anyone may claim the
dog; provided that such person pays all established impound and
adoption fees. They must also pay licensing fees. If no one
claims the animal during or after impoundment duration, the
Animal Control Officer may deal with the animal according to
Town code provisions.
City licensing fees are $7.00 for unaltered
dogs and $5.00 for altered dogs. The Town is responsible to
ensure Rabies shots are accomplished by licensing dogs within
Town limits. All dogs four (4) months or older are required to
be licensed. All dogs are required to be licensed annually in
January of each New Year. Rabies shots by a licensed
Veterinarian and proof of shots by the Veterinarian are required
to have and keep a dog within Town limits.
Adoption fees are $15.00. If the animal
has not been spayed or neutered there is an additional
deposit of $50.00 for a female and $35.00 for male, which will
be refunded within thirty (30) days of adoption once written
proof signed by licensed Veterinarian is presented at the Police
Station stating spaying or neutering has been performed on the
animal.
